thomas wrote ...

Holstein is very entertaining, i sat in on one of his classes.

Holstien is entertaining but I found his class really hard. He rambled and i wasn't sure how to take notes on that. It is probably my learning style that didn't work on that class. There were 2 super duper easy classes that I took.

1) Intro to Acting.....are you kidding me this was pretty much adult play time. The only hard part was keeping a journal and the final scene. I guilt tripped the prof into a good grade.

2) Intro to environmental science (not sure on the course name. tried to find it on the CS page but they redid it so I having a hard time finding it). This was soo simple I don't think I read anything ever. I think we spent a couple days on converting units to/from moles.

Now that I think about it both these classes were taken on short semesters. Most of the summer/winter classes they offer are pretty good. I got bit in the butt by Database class offered over the summer. The prof kept saying he is a very generous grader and then red marked my test b/c of Capitazation errors on SQL statements.

Ease of use is definitely something that i'm a fan of. the database itself is already in place, so i assume that making calls to it and all that jazz is easy to do too, which is a plus.

as for the updates thing, that's really cool, because future generations of IT Directors may want to add on, and i was already planning to use something like svn anyways for future implementations. C# sounds like the way to go then, so perhaps i'll get it started soon. Thanks for the input guys!

see, that's why i'm torn; i like python, and i feel like it would be better for talking to the DB and all that jazz, and it's Windows-based so that's not a huge deal.
Program Rewrite - What Language?

I've put the plans in motion to do a full rewrite of the current music logging program at KRUI, aptly named KRUI DJ. Done in Java, and basically, here are it's functions:

Tracks current DJ via login, and thusly tracks their played tracks to report to the website

Gives them the option to change their displayed name and a DJ Bio

Program itself achieves this my connecting to our online database in order to select the track, or enter it if it has never been played before (SQL)

Desktop-based application, not an Applet

My question is, based off of these things, what language should I develop the new version of this program in? I plan to move away from Java. I'm thinking about either Python or C#, and I'm looking for something that works well with SQL databases and also something that gives me the option for implementing new features and a new, nicer looking UI. What do you guys think?
